Spectra client and fellow outdoor signage enthusiast High Wycombe Household Recycling Centre (HRC) has been awarded the accolade for Civic Amenity Site of the Year at the Let’s Recycle Awards 2023.
The awards, which took place in May, celebrate the excellence of the recycling, reuse and waste management sector. This year’s ceremony marks the 20th anniversary of the annual, industry-leading event.
An accolade from the most prestigious event in the industry
Buckinghamshire Council’s High Wycombe Household Recycling Centre was awarded the title of Civic Amenity Site of the Year at a glittering luncheon, which took place at JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London.
The HRC faced some stiff competition, with Mid and East Antrim’s Christmas Toy Container (Mid and East Antrim Borough Council) and Sunderland Household Waste and Recycling Centre (Sunderland City Council) placing second and third in the category.
It was High Wycombe HRC’s 100% customer satisfaction rate – thanks to its staff, tidiness, appearance, layout and, of course, signage – that afforded them the top spot. The centre is also home to an on-site reuse shop, operated by South Bucks Hospice, an initiative that led to the diversion of 114 tonnes of waste during the last year alone.
Recognising and rewarding excellence sector-wide
The 2023 finalists and winners were decided by an expert judging panel, which featured representatives from the leading names in the recycling industry, including LARAC, letsrecycle.com, the Environmental Services Association, Permiserv, FCC Environment, and the National Association of Waste Disposal Officers (NAWDO).

“The list of finalists for the 2023 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management have been revealed, including businesses, individuals, local authorities and community groups… This year, there were 20 categories in total, with the addition of the ‘Recycled Product of the Year’, ‘Service Change at Local Authority Level’ and ‘Sustainable Alternative Fuels Progress Award for 2023’, and the return of ‘Best Local Authority Individual or Team of the Year Award’.”
