The brightness level of your digital screen isn’t perhaps something you often think about. However, anyone that’s ever tried squinting at a dimly-lit screen in broad daylight will tell you that it matters more than you’d think. Yes, high-brightness screens are generally more expensive but in certain situations, forking out that little bit more could save you a lot of work and stress in the long run.
Digital signage is a proven draw when it comes to attracting attention and bringing in customers. Whereas a static screen can only show a piece of the puzzle, a digital sign showing off full motion content in various dazzling colours can reveal the whole thing. Our solutions are also designed to resist sunlight, so no matter how sunny it might be, consumers will be mesmerised by your high brightness display.
How do you measure brightness?
Screen brightness is also known as “luminance” and is measured in nits. Every nit is around the brightness level of one candle. So, a TV screen you might have in your living room will generally have a rating of around 450 nits, because 450 candles would provide more than enough light for a typical night in front of the tele. For commercial use, however, a lot more brightness is required, particularly in situations where screens have to compete with daylight.
For outdoor screens and those being used in shop windows, much brighter screens must be used. Indeed, our ultra high brightness window displays have a brightness of 3500 nits (or candela per square metre) and this might be necessary for screens that are typically exposed to direct sunlight. These screens might also include an ambient lighting sensor, which will allow the screen to automatically adjust its brightness when it gets darker.
The benefits of brightness
- The brighter your display, the more vibrant the content will be. If you are regularly displaying popular brand logos, the colours need to be right, and they need to be instantly recognisable.
- Having a high-brightness screen gives you greater flexibility – more options when it comes to when and how you use it.
- The brighter the screen, the more forgiving the viewing angles will be so passers-by will be seeing more of the screen for longer.
- Higher brightness screens provide a better and more natural contrast, particularly in naturally bright ambient conditions.
- While older and cheaper LCD screens might not be able to produce a bright enough image for outdoor use, our range of LCD displays have been specifically built to withstand the rigours of direct sunlight 24/7 thanks to our commercial grade components.
